It is with deep sadness, that the Diocese of Tucson announces the passing of Deacon Alfred Caponirgo. Known affectionately as “Al Cap” and “Deacon Al,” he entered into eternal life with Our Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones. A beloved husband, father, brother, friend, deacon, and drummer, Deacon Al touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. He was 73 years old.
In 1991, Deacon Caponirgo was ordained a deacon for the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey, by Bishop John Reiss. He served the faithful of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Asbury Park, New Jersey, for many years before relocating to Tucson, Arizona. In the Diocese of Tucson, Deacon Caponirgo served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where he devoted several years to Life Teen ministry.
On August 27, 2026, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anselm’s Roman Catholic Church in Wayside, New Jersey. Burial followed at Monmouth Memorial Park Cemetery in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on November 7, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. The Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
