David Vernon Barfuss, a beloved father, deacon, and community member, left this world on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the age of 77. David was born on October 22, 1947, in Fargo, ND, to Vernon and Monica (Duval) Barfuss.
David’s journey began in the heart of Fargo, where he attended Holy Spirit Catholic School and Shanley High School. He later earned his associate’s degree in accounting from Pima Community College. His dedication to service was evident as he enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, proudly serving for four years and later becoming a member of the Air National Guard in Tucson, AZ.
David’s professional life included working at Ted’s SuperValu, now known as Hornbacher’s, and then fulfilling his role as a business license investigator for the City of Tucson until his retirement. His commitment to the community extended beyond his career; he became a Deacon in the Catholic Church, dedicating his life to serving others. At St. Monica Parish in Tucson, he was a cherished catechist for Holy Communion and Confirmation, a Eucharistic minister, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, attaining the honor of 4th Degree. He served as the president of the Elvira Neighborhood Association and was an active participant at the El Pueblo Senior Center, embodying the spirit of community engagement.
David was a man of simple joys, finding happiness in fishing, bowling, and gardening. Family games filled his home with laughter, and he loved camping, traveling, and gathering with friends and family for parties, dancing, and belting out a tune during karaoke. His playful spirit and zest for life will be remembered fondly by all who were privileged to share in his company.
David is survived by his beloved children, Monica (Miguel) Ayon, David M. (Mari) Barfuss, and Antonio Tachiquin, who carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
