Parishes across our diocese will take up the annual Catholic Schools Collection this weekend inviting the faithful to prayerfully consider a gift in support of Catholic education and the children, families, educators, and school leaders it serves.
The collection benefits the Department of Catholic Schools, which supports 24 Catholic schools throughout the diocese and helps strengthen our shared mission of forming students in faith, knowledge, values, and service.
Angelina Schmidt, Superintendent of Diocese of Tucson Catholic Schools, said Catholic education is rooted in the Church’s commitment to the dignity and formation of every child.
“One of the things that I continue to share with our schools is that Catholic education is a pro-life endeavor — it aims to see the whole child realized, to become what God intended each of them to become,” Schmidt said. “Catholic education is also the seed bed of our faith. Supporting our Catholic schools helps the future of our Church by forming children in their faith, knowledge, and values.”
Funds raised through the Catholic Schools Collection help provide resources that directly support Catholic education across Southern Arizona, including leadership formation and support for principals, development for new Catholic school leaders, administrative meetings and professional development opportunities, support for school pastors, the annual Celebration of Catholic Schools event, and initiatives that strengthen the faith formation and development of students, school employees, and school leaders. Diocesan leaders said the collection is an opportunity for all Catholics — whether or not they have a child or grandchild enrolled in a Catholic school — to take part in a ministry that helps young people encounter Christ, grow in wisdom and holiness, and prepare to serve the Church and the wider community. Every gift, regardless of size, helps ensure that Catholic schools remain vibrant places of learning, faith, and service for families throughout the Diocese of Tucson.
Those who are able are invited to prayerfully consider donating during the September 26-27 collection at their parish. The Diocese of Tucson is grateful for your generosity, prayers, and commitment of parishioners who help Catholic schools continue their mission for generations to come.
