Gracie Quiroz Marum, CEO of Arizona’s Catholic Tuition Support Organization
As we prepare for Easter Sunday, we hope your Lenten journey has been meaningful and filled with reflection on faith and family.
Over the next few weeks as we prepare to file our 2025 Arizona tax return, keep in mind that you can still take advantage of the tax credits available to us. The Arizona Private Education Tax credit is a gift for taxpayers and a blessing to thousands of students enrolled in our Catholic schools. Arizona is one of a handful of states that provides the opportunity for individuals to re-direct their state tax liability to help students with tuition assistance.
Arizona’s Catholic Tuition Support Organization of the Diocese of Tucson (CTSO) in the past year alone awarded more than $12.1 million dollars and 5,000 scholarships to students regardless of race, creed, or ethnicity. These numbers represent a child whose life changed from one that may have only had dreams of a quality education to one of the 99 percent who graduated from high school.
Our schools produce an extraordinarily high graduation rate but of those who graduate high school 98 percent go on to higher education. For a significant number of families, these students are the first to attend or graduate high school or post-secondary education. Students enrolled at all levels, from kindergarten through high school, benefit from learning in an environment of high academic standards, community service, moral guidance and enveloped and nurtured by our Catholic faith. These students are our future in every sense-our nation, our state, our city, and our Church.
Redirecting state tax liability is an opportunity for taxpayers to make the choice to bring the gift of educational excellence to students who otherwise may be limited by economic barriers. Through the Arizona State Tax Credit program, CTSO makes Catholic education available, accessible, and affordable.
