St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Tubac stands as a living testament to the enduring faith and deep Catholic roots of this historic community. Constructed between 1910 and 1912 on the very site of the original Santa Gertrudis de Tubac adobe chapel (built in 1767), the church carries forward nearly 260 years of continuous Catholic presence. When the original adobe structure collapsed, parishioners rebuilt with devotion and determination. In 1930, a stucco renovation gave the church its distinctive façade—still recognizable today as the spiritual heart of Tubac.
The story of St. Ann’s is inseparable from that of Juan Bautista de Anza, the visionary commander of the Tubac Presidio in the 1760s. His leadership inspired the founding of the first chapel and set in motion a legacy of faith that continues to shape our parish today. Across generations, St. Ann’s has been more than a church—it has been a gathering place for worship, heritage, and community.
Equally woven into that legacy is St. Ann’s Parish Hall. In 1958, local benefactor William Morrow donated 13 acres north of the village to the Diocese of Tucson with hopes of establishing a parochial school. When teachers could not be secured, the community transformed that vision into something just as meaningful—a parish and community center. Through the generosity and teamwork of Tubac’s faithful, St. Ann’s Hall was built, becoming a hub for civic meetings, festivals, art exhibits, and family celebrations.
From 1999 to 2021, the Hall housed Montessori de Santa Cruz Charter School, carrying forward its mission as a place of learning and service. When the school relocated in 2021, a new chapter began—one that would breathe fresh life into the beloved Hall for generations to come.
The Vision for St. Ann's Parish Hall
St. Ann’s Parish envisions a revitalized Community Hall that renews the spirit of fellowship and unity throughout Santa Cruz County. Designed to host gatherings of up to 200 people, the Hall will provide a unique, beautiful, and affordable venue—unlike any other in the region. Whether for weddings, parish events, civic meetings, art shows, or community celebrations, it will once again become the heartbeat of Tubac.
Through collaborative partnerships with local businesses, civic organizations, and parish families, St. Ann’s Community Hall will serve as both a spiritual and cultural home— welcoming all who come to celebrate life’s milestones, strengthen relationships, and deepened community ties. It is our mission to ensure that the Hall remains a place where faith and friendship meet, continuing the legacy of service that began more than a century ago.
