  • Feast of St. JosephMarch 19
    Feast of St. Joseph
    March 19
The Christian people have always found ways to surround sacramental life with helps to benefit more effectively from them.
  • St. Joseph's Table and Care for the Poor

    • The St. Joseph's table is a Sicilian Catholic pious tradition going back to the middle ages. At its best, it is connected to care for the homeless, the hungry, the members of our families and a memorial of the goodness of St. Joseph. During the Season of Lent, connect the beauty of the St. Joseph Table with care for the needy.  Call your parish to see what collections of food, clothing and other aid the parish community may have to help care for the ones Christ loves. (Mt. 25.) Prepare a special meal or something sweet in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph, March 19.
      • A good resource for this culinary devotion is  St. Joseph's Table Cookbook: 100s of Years of Old-World Family Cooking authored by Br. Gary of the Servants of the Father who helps to run St. Joseph's Inn for the Homeless in Los Angeles.

      • More resources to celebrate the St. Joseph's table in your home can be found at Catholic Cuisine: Recipes for celebrating the feasts and seasons of the Liturgical Year and the Virtual St. Joseph's Altar located here.

    • St. Joseph's Altar

St. Joseph Altar in Parish and Home is also a form of devotion and Christian piety. Erect an altar with your children with a statue or picture of St. Joseph. Devotions draw our hearts to God's presence in our lives through the communion of the saints.

"The faith of the Christian people has developed numerous forms of popular piety and devotions. The religious instincts of the Christian people have always found ways to surround sacramental life with helps to benefit more effectively from them. Popular devotions have proven to be powerful forms of prayer and to be of spiritual benefit to many." United States Catholic Catechism for Adults

“It is a salutary practice and very praiseworthy, already established in some countries, to consecrate the month of March to the honour of the holy Patriarch by daily exercises of piety."  (Pope Leo XIII, August 15, 1889)
