Casa Maria Soup Kitchen was estabished under Bishop Moreno. It's mission was to spread Christ's love to those in need, and it has grown ever since. It started off in one little house and now there are three! Food is distributed in one, El Rio health sets-up in another, and showers, free clothes, and mail are in the last house. All of these resources are run by the South Tucson community and parishioners from Santa Cruz Catholic Church. They say they've taken care of one another for many years, and wouldn't have it any other way.
Brian Flagg has worked and lived in Casa Maria for many years and has been one with the community. He says that South Tucson is considered one of the poorest cities in Arizona. That is why he has devoted his life to the mission of serving it through this Catholic Worker House.
The Catholic Foundation supported this mission by delivering 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to Casa Maria. The Diocese Pastoral Center staff helped in making sandwiches and packing the lunches along with other snacks.
Casa Maria is open to receving donations and volunteers. If you're interested visit their website:
