The Kino Heritage Society coordinated a unique opportunity to celebrate the 379th anniversary of Venerable Padre Kino's birthday which was August 10, 1645. Canadian musicians, Le Consort laurentien, performed 16th and 17th century music on period instruments -- this is the same style of music that Padre Kino himself would have listened to in his time. The concert took place inside renowned San Xavier del Bac Mission, founded by Padre Kino in 1692.
Padre Kino is recognized as Venerable by the Catholic Church, the second of four stages in the canonization process of being named a Saint. A Jesuit missionary from Italy, Kino ventured to the Borderlands of Sonora, Mexico, and Arizona to evangelize to the Primería Alta people, urge peace among warring tribes, explore uncharted territory, and establish sustainable farming practices.
