By Santa Catalina Social Justice Education Team
Beginning in September the Parish of Santa Catalina will once again offer some presentations on Catholic Social Justice. Our parish has a long history of doing Social Justice work with the poor, the homeless, and the incarcerated. We have supported Casa Maria, the Women’s Shelter, Youth on their Own, Incarcerated Juveniles far from any contact with their families, and adults serving prison terms. Jesus said, “I was hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless, a stranger, in prison, persecuted and you ministered to me.” The parish has taken those words seriously.
In addition, over the years, we have offered a series of presentation on the principles of Catholic Social Justice and begun a Care for Creation ministry in the parish. It has been a few years since we offered those presentations and now in honor of the Jubilee Year and the 10th Anniversary of Laudato si’ we will offer another series of presentations on Catholic Social Justice and the great Vatican Documents which elaborate on how we can live this constitutive element of the Gospel.
The presentations will be done by Teresita Scully who did a series in the parish 6 years ago and has served on the Parish Social Awareness and Justice Ministry. The presentations will be offered on two Sunday afternoons a month in the meeting rooms of the parish and will simultaneously be available on Zoom. The links will be in announcements in the bulletin and on our website. Anyone with an interest in Catholic Social Justice is welcome to attend and participate.
