It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude that the family of Deacon John Scott Pickett, beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and dedicated servant of the Church, announces his passing on March 5, 2025 at the age of 59. Deacon Pickett was a cherished member of St. Odilia Catholic Church, where he served with great devotion for many years, and dedicated Director of Campus Ministry at Salpointe Catholic High School.
Born on Aug 7, 1965 in Denver, Colorado, Deacon Pickett was the son of Dr. John Clement and Judith Faye Bessire Pickett. He was called to the diaconate after years of prayer and discernment, being ordained as a Permanent Deacon on May 31, 2008 by Bishop Gerald Kicanas. His ministry was marked by his unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to serving both the altar and the community. Deacon Pickett was known for his humble spirit, his deep love for the Lord, and his tireless work in bringing the love of Christ to others, especially through his outreach to the youth.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nicole, with whom he shared nearly 28 years of marriage. Deacon Pickett was a devoted father to Alexa (Macormik Hopen), Connor, Sydney, Luke, and Stephen, a beloved brother to Lynn Quattlebaum (Jeff Quattlebaum) and Lisa Briggs, devoted son-in-law to Bernice Garcia, brother-in-law to Michelle Buhs and Felise Garcia, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Pickett, and brother-in-law Deacon Bill Buhs.
Throughout his life, Deacon Pickett was a pillar of strength, offering his wisdom, guidance, and comfort to countless individuals. He was a true witness of the Gospel, living his faith through daily acts of love, service, and prayer. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his example of selfless devotion to the Church and to others will forever be remembered.
Visitation will be held at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 North Paseo Del Norte, on Saturday, March 15 at 9:30 am, followed by Rosary at 10:30 am. The Funeral Mass will begin at St. Odilia’s at 11:00 am with Father Miguel Mariano officiating. Private burial will be held at Holy Hope Cemetery on Monday, March 17.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Deacon Pickett’s honor to St. Odilia Catholic Church or Salpointe Catholic High School.
The family would like to thank all those who supported Deacon Pickett and his family during his illness. They are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers from the community.
