To the Priests, Deacons, Consecrated Men and Women, and Lay faithful of the Diocese of Tucson:
On December 22, 2025, it was announced in Rome that Reverend James A. Misko, a priest of the Diocese of Austin, would now become the 8th Bishop of Tucson, Arizona. As Bishop of the Diocese of Austin, I want to share with you my joy and congratulations on receiving a wonderful man and priest of Jesus Christ as your new bishop. Bishop-elect Misko has faithfully served the local Church of Austin since his ordination to the priesthood in June 2007.
I have had the privilege of knowing him as a seminarian and priest. In everything that he has done and participated as a priest and pastor he has always sought ways to bring people closer to our Lord, Jesus Christ. He has proven himself as a successful priest, pastor, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia.
In Bishop-elect Misko you are receiving a man of wisdom, intellect and one who has the heart of a Good Shepherd. He is a person who looks forward to getting to know you and walking with you. Our diocese will certainly miss his enthusiasm, energy and dedication to this local Church. Please take good care of your new bishop! I know that he will be a blessing to the Church of Tucson!
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Daniel E. Garcia
Bishop of Austin
