St. Ambrose School weathers the storm with faith

With all the difficulty schools are having with distance learning, we thought we would share some of the great ways our school  community has come up with to create a sense of community during this difficult time.  These are a few things that we've done recently.

Nurturing the close bond with our St. Ambrose community is always a top priority at our school.  During these trying times, we've worked hard to strengthen our community with several virtual challenges and activities.  

We recently launched a drawing contest for a depiction of Our Lady - the winner's drawing will be showcased in this year's Christmas card. Many students participated in this event and the "judging" team had a difficutl time deciding on the best one.  We loved all of the students' creations. 

As we got closer to Christmas, we sent home a Nativity Set craft that kids enjoyed coloring with their families.  They were happy to share their final products with the rest of the school. 
Celebrating our traditional Christmas Posada/SA Pole is an event that the entire community looks forward to every year. 


How could we forgo this event this year? A group of teachers and staff put their creative minds to work and created a wonderful Posada for students and families to enjoy virtually. 

Everyone enjoyed a pre- recorded Posada procession led by two kindergarten students as Joseph and Mary and members of our school mariachi followed by a Reader's Theater, wonderful messages from teachers and staff, a reflection about the meaning of the Candy Cane, fun virtual games and reminiscing on past St. Ambrose Posadas. 


The event culminated with a message from the Elf on the Shelf and Santa Claus himself!  Definitely an event that will be a memory to cherish for many years to come.  We may need to be physically distanced but we can still be together. School Principal Roseanne Villanueva emphasized how Christmas may be different this year, but to find ways to be close to Jesus and to remember what Christmas is all about.
