My husband Bruce and I approached Kristin VanTilborg, our Adult Faith Formation Coordinator, and our pastor, Fr. Richard Kusugh, V.C., about doing a program centered around the Eucharist, since the United States Catholic bishops have inaugurated a three-year National Eucharistic Revival to “renew the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the holy Eucharist.” The National Eucharistic Revival “aims to inspire, educate and unite the faithful in a more intimate relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist.” We all decided on the video study program, “The Eucharist in Scripture.”
This video study is built around three of Dr. Scott Hahn’s foundational talks: “The Lamb’s Supper,” “The Fourth Cup,” and “Consuming the Word.” The Eucharist in Scripture examines the biblical foundations of the Eucharist and explores the Church’s liturgy as the original context for the books of the Bible. There is an opportunity for discussion and reflection and prayer. Each of the six videos average around 29 minutes long, followed by group discussion. Sessions begin and end with prayer.
Dr. Scott Hahn is founder and president of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. Renowned as a scholar and educator, Dr. Hahn ranks among his generation’s most influential Catholic voices. He is the author of scores of books addressed to popular and academic audiences.
We held the program in the fall as preparation for Advent. The participants all agreed that it was inspirational and highly educational. Many of us are cradle Catholics and learned so much about the Scriptural basis for the Eucharist and Mass. The participants encouraged us to hold the program again in Lent as a preparation for Holy Week. They urged us to let people in the Diocese of Tucson know about it.
Dr. Hahn fully explains how Jesus’ Passion began at the Last Supper and continued on to His death on the cross. Dr. Hahn gives great insights into why we Catholics believe that the consecrated Bread and Wine at Mass is the real body and blood of Christ.
Therefore, please join us for this inspiring scripture study on the six Saturdays of Lent. Discover God’s plan as it is expressed through the Bible and the Mass, and prepare for the most meaningful Holy Week you have ever experienced!
